教学主题:Rising China (Viewing and Speaking)
导入活动从讨论2019年观看阅兵式的感受开始,引出过去国庆典礼时的对比图片,询问本环节核心问题“adjectives to describe China of the Past”“adjectives to describe China of Today”,寻找同学们对于“过去的中国” “今天的中国”的印象。
I. Analysis of the learning materials
The main teaching material for this class is a video clip cut from an interview with a famous director, Malcolm Clarke, about China of today in his eyes. In the video, the speaker’s clear and authentic pronunciation and intonation serve as perfect examples for students to practice their listening and speaking. Even better, the video can offer a better visual impact to students, helping students understand China of today in a visible way. In this video, the speaker elaborates his opinion that China is a global power and affirms the tremendous changes happening in China, which can fully arouse students’ patriotism.
II. Analysis of the students
Teenagers of this generation live in a time of rapid development. Living in such a period makes students prouder than any other period of history. A chance should be given to students to observe the changes around them and feel the progress China has made. Influenced and motivated by their national pride, they feel the desire to have a better command of English in terms of speaking, expecting to introduce and popularize China to the world. This desire comes as a strong driving force to push them to get fully involved and can hopefully optimize their learning outcome.
III. Learning objectives
a) To improve the ability to capture key words, general idea and pictorial information;
b) To provoke consideration over the achievements China has made.
c) To boost oral English by acknowledging the dramatic changes with useful expressions and sharing their ambitions;
d)To enhance national pride by realizing our progress, and therefore strengthen their determination to create a better China in the future.
